Calling Fashion Creatives, MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week Awards is BACK, and you can win up to 4 Million Naira!

Nigerian fashion has metamorphosed from being merely cultural to a way of life. A whole new generation of fashion designers, fashion creatives and fashion taste makers have made it desirable to be seen wearing clothes made by Nigerian designers. This influence has gradually spread and is being represented on runways around the world.

Last year, MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week debuted as a premiere fashion event, which brought together media, the industry, buyers and consumers to view the current collections of designers in the fashion capital of Lagos, Nigeria.

The platform which cut across geographic and culture barriers started with a tour of Nigeria’s top cities; Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Abuja scouting for the Nations most talented Fashion Creatives to compete at The Lagos Fashion and Design Week Awards.

The Lagos Fashion and Design Week Award aims to promote the development, growth and promotion of creatives in the industry by nurturing, fine tuning and harnessing their skills as well as providing them with a solid platform for achieving their goals.

Last year’s MTN LFDW Awards had 3 categories, The MTN British Council Young Designer of the Year, won by Binta Shuaibu who went home with a car, Master Classes facilitated by British Council and a 3 month presence at Le Petit Marche’s monthly pop up store. Natalie Portman Covers 'Madame Figaro' July 2012!

Natalie Portman looks beautiful on the cover of Madame Figaro magazine’s July 2012 issue, on newsstands now!

Here is what the 31-year-old actress had to share with the mag:

On being appreciative of her success: “I have always considered myself extremely lucky. I know very well that there are very few elected officials in this business and that many of us, despite their talent and hard work, will not come out of the lot. These are the laws of chance.”

On her youthful appearance: “It’s very strange because my physical traits sometimes make it difficult for others to consider me a woman and at the same time I have been in the business for so long that many think I have already passed the 40 year mark (laughs).”

On being an object of beauty: “I obviously do not see myself that way. I prefer ‘about beauty’ or ‘subject of desire’. One can say that about all women, whatever their life and career.”

Miranda Kerr gets the waxwork treatment

Designer Alex Perry tends to a dress worn by a Miranda Kerr wax figure as it is unveiled in Sydney, Australia. Photo: WIRE IMAGE

Is it just us or is Miranda Kerr absolutely everywhere at the moment? If she's not cutting a dash around New York City in a pair of micro shorts, then she's gazing back at us from several magazine covers in the newsagent.
Lucky then, that Kerr has duplicated herself. We're talking in waxwork form of course, which means the supermodel can now spiritually reside in her native country as Madame Tussauds in Sydney add "Miranda The Waxwork" to their collection.
It took four months and 500 measurements to replicate all of Kerr's photogenic physique, and she sports a red gown with a sequinned bodice by fellow Australian designer Alex Perry - who can be seen putting the finishing touches to his design above.

JESSICA SIMPSON TAKES ON BRIDAL STYLE

It's easy to forget the days when Jessica Simpson was just a singer now that she can add TV show host, reality television star, movie actress, and fashion designer to her resume. A few months ago, ELLE reported that she has even ventured into making a maternity collection. The next step for the JS brand: Debuting a bridal line.

Moving into wedding gowns makes sense now that she is more family focused in her personal life. In the past year, she has given birth to her daughter, Maxwell, and got engaged to NFL-star Eric Johnson.

Brides-to-be will be excited to hear that Simpson plans to make pieces for all shapes and sizes. A source close to her told In Touch, "She is talented and knows what women want to wear. She has curves like every girl, so women will buy those dresses up!"

Paris Haute Couture: Valentino autumn/winter 2012

It's not too fanciful to suggest that couture's new delicate touch began with Valentino's regime change four years ago. Yes, before Armani eased up for his Privé collection this season, before even the sainted Raf Simons introduced restraint and reality to Dior with his first show since he was appointed as John Galliano's successor (to the most rapturous reviews since Jesus walked on water), Maria Grazia Chiurli and Pier Paolo Piccioli were rustling up big statements out of thin air - or at least out of whisper-weight clouds of chiffon and lace that seemed filled with air.

Talk about a light hand on the tiller. Ever since they were put in charge at Valentino in 2008, the duo has produced a master class in understated craftsmanship each season. And it just gets more assured with every collection. It's all the more remarkable for being the product of two minds with distinct creative outlooks. Staying true to the essence of these old brands while moving them forward isn't easy.

Versace opens Paris haute couture ball

PARIS - Versace got the haute couture ball off to a bold start Sunday night in Paris, as the Italian house sent out creations of aerial chiffon, body-hugging leather and rich crystal embroidery.
For the first of two dozen haute couture shows taking place until Wednesday night, the platinum blonde, permatanned designer Donatella Versace said she drew inspiration from the imagery of tarot cards.
Abstract prints derived from the fortune cards -- sun, moon, lovers -- adorned billowing chiffon evening gowns or a strapless mini dress of silk satin, overlaid with plastic and sliced into fine horizontal strips.
Hair in loose, bouncy curls, the models strode a catwalk directly above the swimming pool of the Ritz hotel, covered up for the occasion.
Their tight bustiers were fashioned from fine strips of shiny leather, or swirled patterns of crystal mesh and embroidery, flaring into generous sheer skirts, slit high on the thigh, in lime green, raspberry pink or sky blue.
